2017 + What's to Come

Last year was different. I'm still not used to 2017 being last year. I turned 21, landed an awesome internship, rediscovered my faith in Christ, booked a one-way ticket to New York, changed my mind (again) about the career path I want to pursue, graduated college, and moved out of my first apartment.

This year— 2018— is going to be the year. One of my best friends texted me New Year's Day that she had faith that 2018 would be the year of Alexa (get yourself friends like this if you don't have them already). It's undoubtedly going to bring a lot of change and growth, and I don't know where I'll end up and what I'll end up doing, but I know this: I'm going to embrace every part of it, keep my loved ones close, and keep Jesus closer.

I've never been one for New Year's resolutions, and I stopped goal-setting like a crazy person several months back (a couple of aims/goals are okay, but I refuse to let goals control me anymore), but I have made a "Moving Back to New York" list and made a few decisions. I've decided to let success be on my own terms. I've decided to stop ruling things out. I've decided to let what I deem the conflicting parts of myself exist harmoniously rather than trying to reconcile them.

I've decided that changing my mind is normal and healthy, and it's no one's business but my own should and when I do so. I've decided that I'm not going to let little things bother me and that I'm not going to get hung up on things I can't control. I'm going to worry less and trust God more.

Of course, there are things I want to accomplish in 2018, but they aren't things I'm going to put pressure on myself to complete— especially on a set timeline— by December 31st because first and foremost, I've decided to live consciously this year. I'm tired of taking the backseat, waiting for the next thing on my calendar to materialize. Starting this past Monday, I'm taking things day-by-day.
