September Favorites

There were a lot of things I was into this month, so I thought I'd share them all in a post. Please excuse my less-than-exciting photo (hehe) because I didn't have the time to make a pretty collage in Photoshop.

Listened to... Night Riots' latest singles.
Their debut LP drops next month, and I'm SO excited. I discovered them early last year in my suggested songs cache on iTunes (pre-Spotify Premium.... how did I go so long without it?) and quickly became obsessed. They happened to be on tour, so I got tickets and saw them live about a week later. They've since become one of my favorite bands, and I'm so excited for some new music.

Read... The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman.
It took me way too long to finish this book, and I didn't realize how invested I was in the story line until the book ended. This was a pretty unique read about two different characters living two very different lives in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. I'm generally pretty good at predicting events or foreseeing what's ahead, but there were a number of twists in this novel that I didn't see coming. It is pretty graphic, and there are several tragedies described in great detail, so if this offends you, it not might be the read for you. Overall, I'd give it 4/5 stars.

Wore... NYX Lip Lingerie.
I have never been into lip products. I love eye makeup and do a full eye look pretty much every day, but I rarely put anything on my lips other than eos lip balm. That said, I wanted to try out a nude lipstick or matte liquid lipstick. I was on the fence about the Kylie lip kit, so I ended up going with the popular $7 (!!) dupe. And I love it. I layer the Lip Lingerie in "Satin Ribbon" over my Clinique Chubby Stick in "Heaping Hazelnut," and it's exactly the look I had wanted. I definitely want to pick up a few more shades.

Watched... Grey's Anatomy.
I can't believe I got hooked on this show. I had absolutely no interest in watching it (I've seen reruns/some of my friends have watched it, so I already know who ends up dying, too) but attempted an episode anyway. I couldn't make it through 40 minutes, but I tried again and... I'm addicted, even if the surgery scenes gross me out and it makes me ugly cry.

Loved... the Amazon Echo Dot.
I was planning to ask for an Echo for Christmas, but the Dot is essentially the same thing, but smaller and $130 cheaper. I don't believe that there's anything on the market that allows you to control music from Spotify using voice commands, and I'm always playing music in my apartment, so for 50 bucks, I'm sold. Definitely going to order one once they come out, even if calling it "Alexa" might take some getting used to haha.

And I'm looking forward to... Buying a ticket to Riptide Fest! They go on sale tomorrow, and even though I just dished out some $$ for a concert that's not until April, I can't pass up a local festival with such a great lineup.

  1. I've heard such good things about NYX lip lingerie... Ulta is having a sale on NYX products right now so I think it's sign that I need to finally try it!

    1. You definitely should! So many good neutral shades, and I don't find the matte formula to be drying at all! I would recommend picking up a matching liner, if you can find one.

  2. Alexa, I just stumbled upon your blog through Twitter and wow, I totally love the things you write about! I'm also not big on lip products but NYX I happen to love! Really enjoy reading through your posts, would you like to follow each other maybe? Let me know <3 Have a good weekend!
