I'm Doing College "Wrong" + I Don't Care

Pretty sure I'm doing college wrong. Here's why.

1 // I don't really drink. Yes, I like margaritas with my Mexican food, and I'll drink a boozy iced coffee at brunch sometimes, but I just don't feel the need to go out and get plastered "to blow off steam." I'm fine with alcohol, should you choose to drink it, so long as you're responsible about it; alcoholism runs in my family, and getting drunk just to get drunk is not something I respect or feel inclined to do.

2 // Sort of going along with that, I've never ordered pizza. Unless you count that one mushroom and ricotta pizza from that gourmet place on East 12th in NYC, I'm a college student who doesn't order in pizza.

3 // I've only been to one college party. Yep. One. It was really lame, and I didn't care enough to go to another one.

4 // So what do I do if I'm not going to parties? I go to concerts, explore art museums, eat at new restaurants, locate (and sample, duh) the nearest gourmet doughnut shop, see the latest Marvel movie. You get the idea. No college parties, formals, socials, or clubbing for me. Luckily, there are other people who enjoy the same things :)

5 // I don't pull all-nighters or stay up studying until 3 AM. Never have and probably never will.

6 // I have not attempted to work in my school's library, nor will I ever. Sh*t just won't get done in that quiet of a space haha.

7 // I spend, like, no time on campus. I'm only there to go to class. I guess this is typical/fair for someone who lives off-campus, though.

8 // I don't have a roommate. Anyone I meet who finds out that I live alone wants to know why, and whether it's lonely, because living by yourself is not really the norm for a college junior (or sophomore, which is when I moved in to my studio). I didn't plan to live alone; it sort of just happened when, as a transfer who didn't know anyone, none of my roommate plans worked out.

9 // And, perhaps the most "wrong" of all, I don't absolutely love college. I don't hate it, or even dislike it, either. Just not sure why all those people out there wish they could relive "the best four years" of their lives. If you get this, please let me know because I want to understand.

Yeah, so I'm doing it wrong. But I don't care. Why not?

I'm happy anyway. In spite of my atypical college experience, I'm happy. And isn't happiness the most important thing?
